More than 16 years ago, the beginning of Camisha’s Cakes started off as a self-challenge. At the young age of 13, I was introduced to the Food Network while scrolling through channels on the television. When an episode about cake-making aired, feelings of awe and admiration led me to the kitchen to start baking my first cake by myself. Grabbing a box of Betty Crocker cake mix and a couple of pans, I baked with the intent to decorate this beautiful cake as I had just seen on TV.  As with any creative beginner, the cake did not turn out the way my 13 year-old brain had in mind. But it was without worry. I felt challenged to do better next time...aka the very next day. And for many days after that; watching Food Network, learning the techniques, practicing, perfecting, and repeating. At age 18, I started getting cake requests from close friends and family. Very soon after, word of mouth had spread and I was quickly growing out of my parent’s kitchen!

In 2014, I received my Bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University majoring in Hospitality Tourism Management with an emphasis in Small Business Entrepreneurship. While still learning the latest cake techniques and trends on YouTube University, I still remain 100% self-taught in the cake-making field. Although I still hobby-baked orders here and there after graduating college, I became heavily invested in the hotel industry, working at different properties in San Francisco. Until late 2016 when without warning, my Mom passed away from a rare cancer unbeknownst to anyone until it had already reached stage 4. Through the end of 2017, five more of my family members and a close friend had passed on. 

In the Fall of 2018, I decided to take a solo trip through Europe in need of peace and time to reflect. At that point, I felt like my life’s passion was in a state of “all or nothing.”  I made a firm decision to live my calling and officially open Camisha’s Cakes upon my return home. In June of 2019, the same month as Mom’s birthday, Camisha’s Cakes was officially opened in San Francisco, California. 

While the business is new, the quality and values have remained the same since 2008. Camisha’s Cakes is dedicated to giving you an edible piece of art to be reminisced as the highlight of your event. Delivering what you envision in design and taste is of utmost importance to me, and is what I am known for. Using high quality ingredients and locally sourced produce, I’m pleased to support other small local businesses for select ingredients.

Although this all started out with a 13-year-old and a ‘self-challenge’, what now truly brings me joy, is witnessing the delighted reactions of my clients when they see their cake for the first time. Happiness is contagious, and I’m honored that my life’s work is all about contributing a piece of happiness to others.
